For AutoSpot to toggle your mobile hotspot, the Hotspot tile must be placed on the very first page of your Quick Settings drawer.
How to edit your Quick Settings panel:
- Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to fully expand the Quick Settings drawer.
- Tap the Edit (pencil) icon (usually at the bottom-right or top-right of the drawer).
- Locate the Hotspot (or Mobile Hotspot) tile.
- Tap and hold the tile, then drag it up onto the first page of active tiles (positioning it in the top row makes automation even faster).
- Tap the back button or "Done" to save your layout.
AutoSpot uses Android's Accessibility feature to simulate a button click on your behalf. Because Accessibility services can only click what is currently rendered on screen, the tile must be visible immediately when the panel slides down without needing to swipe left or right.
This is almost always caused by Android's aggressive battery saving features. To extend battery life, many phone manufacturers (especially Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo) automatically shut down background applications after a period of inactivity.
Will keeping AutoSpot running drain my battery? Absolutely not. AutoSpot is designed for extreme efficiency, consuming **less than 0.1% battery per day** in standby. Rather than running active battery-draining scans in the background, AutoSpot listens passively: Android wakes the app up for a fraction of a second *only* when your vehicle's Bluetooth connects or disconnects, then puts it back to sleep. It uses virtually zero CPU or RAM.
However, because Android's built-in battery saver cannot distinguish between efficient background listeners and heavy background processes, it will terminate AutoSpot unless you specify otherwise. Here is how to configure it to run reliably:
How to allow AutoSpot to run reliably:
- On your phone, long-press the AutoSpot app icon and select App Info (or go to Settings > Apps > AutoSpot).
- Tap on Battery, App battery usage, or Battery saver.
- Make sure Allow background usage is turned ON (if shown).
- Change the setting to Unrestricted, No restrictions, or Allow background activity (this allows Android to deliver Bluetooth events to AutoSpot immediately).
For detailed, device-specific instructions matching your exact phone brand, you can visit the developer-trusted guide at Don't Kill My App!.
Setting up AutoSpot requires three quick configuration steps:
- Grant Permissions: When launching the app, grant Bluetooth Connect permissions (to detect vehicle connections) and enable the AutoSpot Accessibility Service in your system settings (to automate the quick settings click).
- Select Bluetooth Activators: In the AutoSpot settings page, check the box next to your car's Bluetooth name (or any other paired activator device).
- Tap Start Automation: Save your settings to launch the background service. The service will now run silently and respond when your chosen Bluetooth devices connect.
All operations are processed strictly locally on your physical device. The app requires no internet permissions, so your data remains entirely private.
Yes. By default, AutoSpot searches for tiles containing labels like `"hotspot"` or `"tether"`. If your phone's system language is set to a non-English language (or your carrier uses a custom label like `"Personal Hotspot"`), you can specify the exact name manually.
How to override the Hotspot matching label:
- Open AutoSpot and click the **Settings** gear icon.
- Scroll to the bottom of the settings page and expand the Advanced Settings accordion.
- Tap Configure on the Quick Settings Hotspot Label card.
- Enter the exact text as it appears on your Quick Settings tile (e.g. `"Punto de acceso"` for Spanish, or `"Point d'accès"` for French).
- Tap **Save** and verify the configuration.
Cellular data tethering (hotspot mode) is resource-intensive. To prevent your phone from running out of power, AutoSpot includes an automated safety cutoff called **Battery Guard**:
- Automatic Shutdown: If your phone's battery drops below 20% and is not plugged into a charger, AutoSpot immediately turns the hotspot OFF.
- Automation Pause: Background automation is temporarily paused while the battery remains low.
- Auto-Restore: As soon as you plug your phone in to charge (or the battery charges above 20%), AutoSpot automatically checks if you are still connected to your Bluetooth activator and turns the hotspot back ON.
This ensures you never leave your car with a dead phone battery. You can manually override this at any time by toggling the hotspot button in your phone's system drawer.
Some vehicle infotainment systems cycle their Bluetooth connections multiple times when starting up or shutting down. If AutoSpot responded instantly to every brief drop, your hotspot would constantly toggle on and off, causing system lag.
To prevent this, AutoSpot features a brief disconnect debounce delay (currently 5 seconds):
When you turn off your car or walk away, AutoSpot waits a few seconds before turning the hotspot off. If your phone reconnects to your car within that window, the shutdown job is instantly canceled, keeping your hotspot active without interruption.
